Pet Baby Turtle

Pet Baby TurtleWhen it comes to care and responsibility of baby turtles, things become rather different in the sense that baby turtle demands much more of attention and care as compared to adult turtles. Let us have a glance at the various points one needs to keep in mind when you have baby pet turtles at your place.

Pet baby turtle upbringing demands a gentle caress

Although the size of a turtle is small, yet it needs ample of space to swim and bask. Make sure that the pen/tank of the turtle does not have any areas where the baby turtle can mistakably get struck. Having a tender shell, it becomes rather difficult for one to pull it out from the place it is caught into. A water filter and water heater must be there in the pen to ensure a regular supply of fresh water and moreover, a bowl of drinking water is a must outside the tank. To add on to the comfort of the baby turtle, one must also make sure that there are special arrangements made for the basking too.

Feed the pet baby turtle right

An essential part of the diet of the baby turtles is proteins. Proteins paired with lots of green veggies make the best food combination for a baby turtle. If you are planning to feed these turtle hatchlings with worms then make sure you use only farm raised worms and not the wild ones. Mealworms and wax worms are perfect to feed the babies as they are soft and chewable. Remember the insects from outside such as ants, flies etc may prove to be fatal for the baby turtle.

Keep your pet baby turtle away from salmonella hazards

As one knows, around 90 percent of the reptiles are infected with salmonella; it becomes your responsibility to protect your baby turtle from this lethal bacteria. Some of the effective measures which one can always opt to keep away the salmonella contamination include washing your hands thoroughly before and after handling the turtle, keeping the turtle tank/pen clean, thoroughly washing the eating and drinking bowl of the turtle, etc. Some common steps can avoid the risk of salmonella in your baby turtle which is great for you as well as the baby turtle.

Handling the pet baby turtle acceptably

As one knows the shell of a baby turtle is quiet delicate for mishandling, one needs to keep a proper eye when lifting or holding a baby turtle. Unseemly handling may be lethal or terribly agonizing for a baby turtle. Remember to lift a turtle with both of your hands, just the way you lift a hamburger and never like a hotdog squeezing from one hand.

If all the mentioned points are kept a strict watch over then possibly you’ll be able to raise a delicate turtle hatchling into a mature turtle. Although the task requires a strict watch all through, but the results of it are more than commendable.
