Leopard Tortoise Supplies
Leopard tortoises are quite admired by people as a pet because of their beautiful looks. Leopard tortoises are one of the fourth largest species of the world and have yellowish coloured shells with black dots on it. The adult leopard tortoise can reach up to 35 – 40 cm and weigh up to 40 to 60 pounds. These tortoises are mostly found in hot, dry, scrubland areas in southern Africa. Leopard tortoises are not easy to care and require many things to survive. Therefore it is important for one to fulfil basic requirements of leopard tortoise. Some of the basic leopard supplies that are essential to provide a tortoise are mentioned below.
Leopard tortoise supplies:-
- Habitat for leopard tortoise: owner should provide dry and warm habitat to his pet leopard tortoise to make them feel secure and comfortable. The size of habitat should be according to the size of leopard tortoise. One should allow them to graze and exercise outside in a good weather. They should be kept in outdoor habitat only when the temperature is favourable for them. The ideal day temperature for leopard tortoise is 80 – 90° Fahrenheit with a drop at night to 65 – 75° Fahrenheit. Make sure that the outdoor enclosure of leopard tortoise is protected from dog, predators and other unwanted elements. Outdoor enclosure should contain shaded area, hiding spots and access to a shallow pan of water.
Indoor enclosure should be according to the size of your leopard tortoise. It is important for one to provide UVA/ UVB light in indoor enclosure. The ideal temperature for basking area is 95° Fahrenheit. The daytime temperature of indoor enclosure should be 80- 90° Fahrenheit and night time temperature should be 65 – 75° Fahrenheit. The hatchling should be provided with 2 ft long vivarium with the temperature of 80 – 86° Fahrenheit. It is important to maintain cleanliness in leopard tortoise enclosure in order to prevent it from infections.
- Food for leopard tortoise: these tortoises are herbivore animals and love to feed on grass. One can include- spinach, kale, Brussel tops, parsley, water cress, tomato, melon and grape in his leopard tortoise diet. Avoid feeding food that is high in oxalates. Icebergs or round lettuce should not be included in your leopard tortoise diet. Fresh and clean water should be served to leopard tortoise.
- Supplements for leopard tortoise: supplements like vitamin D3 and calcium should be included daily in your leopard tortoise diet. Vitamin D3 is significant for indoor leopard turtle.
- Care for leopard tortoise: leopard tortoises are shy therefore one should spend proper time with them to make them feel comfortable. Proper enclosure with suitable temperature should be provided to them to sustain their health. It is important to provide proper care to the eggs of the pet leopard turtle.
Owner should fulfil basic requirements of their pet tortoise in order to make them feel comfortable and in good shape. It is advisable to take your pet tortoise to a vet if you found any kind of change in its daily activity.
