Bird Breeds
Ever since the on set of human civilization birds have been domesticated by man. Along with dogs archeologists have studied that many bird breeds were tamed by ancient human settlers approximately 5000 years back. The incidence of tamed birds as human companions rather further goes back to the era of early Stone Age, when men were nomads and moved from one place to another for food. Cave paintings of birds, manuscripts and scriptures bear the fact about man’s inclinations toward birds. Prevalence of bird breeds is not only to keep them as a source of food but also because of their exotic and enchanting feathery appearance.
With the discovery of the new world man also came to know about variety of bird breeds that were rare and unique. In fact, one of the major reasons behind man’s interests in bird whether depicted on the cave walls or mentioned in flowery language in man's poetry generation after generation is that of their unique quality of flight, an unearthly visitor from the mysterious unknown.
For centuries man has involved himself in watching the beauty of birds. Some move out to sanctuaries to have a look at their wild appearance while some prefer to keep their favorite specie along with them at their home itself as pets. Due to wide ranging tastes and preferences of bird lovers, breeders intensively research and taken great care to preserve the rare and captivating bird breeds.

African Silverbill – The bird is of the size 10 to 12 cms and its scientific name is Lonchura malabarica. This bird is native to the regions of west and central Africa. It is hardy and can easily breed with other small species of birds like waxbills. This bird also has the habit of incubating eggs of other birds and rearing its chicks. The bird is cream yellow in appearance and has a dark brown feather. The cock bird has also the ability to sing.
Diamond Dove – The bird is about 18 cm in length and is one of the smallest specie of the dove family. The scientific name of the bird is Geospatial Cantata Mangy and is primarily a seed eating bird. It is a ground bird and prefers to nest in shallow places. The bird is intolerant towards the other species of the bird and should only be paired with the opposite sex of the same breed. The chicks once born and grow should be removed the moment the pair hatches another set of eggs.
Indian Blue Roller – The scientific name of the bird is Coracias benghahwsis. The origin of the bird is Asia and it generally grows up to the length of about 10 centimeter. It has an olive green appearance, instead of having a facial mask of orange red the female facemask is goldenbeige. The cock courts by dancing around the hen and the female responds by swinging its tail feather. The incubation period is usually for 13 days.
Red Crested Bird – The bird is about 20 cms. The bird has a bold and striking appearance. It has a combination of bright red color covering its facial mask and grey feathery body. Both the male and the female specie of the bird take part in the process of incubation and rearing of their chicks. During their breeding session they prefer baked caterpillars, maggots, locusts and woodlice as their food.
Splendid Grass Parakeet – The scientific name of the bird is Noephema splendida and grows to the length of about 23 cm. The bird has its origin in Australia and has an appearance of multiple colors like deep blue, green, yellow, orange and brown. The incubation period of the bird is about 19 days and is taken part by both the sexes.
