Humming Bird Food

1. The classic formulation is to make a solution of one part sugar to four parts of water. Generally, the experts suggest that you use cane sugar (the white granulated type is fine.) Starting with a one-cup of water and ј cup of sugar would be more than enough to begin with. However, you can also prepare more bird food and store it, if you want. Let the recipe get cool and then store it in the refrigerator. Remember; do not store it for more than a couple of weeks.
2. The water should be boiled first which will make your work easier. Since, the sugar will get dissolved easily in the boiled water. It will also aid to eliminate the chlorine and any other bacteria in the water.
3. Note that you can depart from the above given ratio, according to the requirement. In fact, in the wintertime you may need to add more sugar to boost the energy content of the mix.
4. Stir the mixture until the sugar gets dissolved. That’s all there is to make a humming bird food.

Points to remember while making a Humming Bird Food

1. Be sure to use a real sugar not the artificial sweeteners. The artificial sweeteners have “low calorie,” which means they do not have nutritional value and will not provide any nutritional value to your loving birds.
2. Avoid using honey, as it has different sugars and it tends the humming bird food to ferment quicker.
3. Natural nectar or humming bird food is odorless and clear. There fore, there is no need to add coloring (red) to mix in the food. The color of the humming bird feeder should be enough to attract your humming birds.
4. However, after you have made the humming bird food to fill in bird feeder, it is very necessary that you clean your humming bird feeder before filling it.

If you decide to put the humming bird feeders in your yard, try to keep them full and clean. The humming birds will get used to find a food source in your yard. When the natural nectar resources are hard to find, they will come to your bird feeder for food.
