Pet Parrots
You may have found a parrot with a personality that appeals you at your local pet store. Now, you want to buy that parrot as a pet. Remember, before you decide to buy it, you should get necessary information about the pet parrot such as how to care and so on. Making a decision to adopt a parrot is a big one by itself.
You need a proper research on parrot in order to select your pet parrot from about 800 varieties. Some of the varieties of pet parrot are African grey parrot, Amazon parrot, Senegal parrot, and macaw’s parrots. Each variety of parrot has different abilities, need and wants which need to be considered before choosing a pet parrot.
However, choosing the right parrots is just the beginning. There are many aspects that you need to consider, if you want to have a healthy and happy parrot that will bring joy and happiness in the years to come.
Tips to take care of pet parrots :
- Grooming your pet parrots : Parrots are very different from that of dogs and cats as pets. Your pet parrots do not need blowdrys or spa treatments like dogs and cats. To groom your parrot you should maintain clipped nails, wing, and a beak in a perfect shape. Nevertheless, it is not an easy task to perform. A pet parrot’s owner should be trained by a professional avian veterinarian, in order to make sure that the task they are doing is correct. If not, never attempt on grooming your pet parrot. Since, it may even cause serious injuries.
- Beak of your pet parrots :Be cautious about certain types of conditions such as upper or lower beak growing in one side. This can be type of defect acquired from the birth or from injury. In such condition, cleaning the beak can be bit difficult. Some of the disease or illness like mite or fungal infections can also cause such problems.
- Nails of your pet parrots :The first thing you should know about cutting your parrots toenail is the desired length of the nails to be cut. For this procedure, you will need a safe restraint, cutting device and styptic powder. Never attempt to cut the nails of pet parrot, if you are unsure and not properly trained to perform the task. The cutting device should be appropriate size of your pet parrot. For the smaller parrots, human nail trimmers will do a great job. Nevertheless, for the larger parrot, a pet trimmer is most appropriate. Nails are very important to cut because it may cause a serious injury to your pet parrot.
- Wings of your pet parrots :A properly clipped pet parrot wing can prevent serious injuries. In an attempt to fly during the play sessions, parrots can avoid falling to the ground hard with correct clipped wings. Its is true that a full- winged parrot is very nice to look at and adds to the beauty of the parrot. However, remember that, your parrot is kept as a pet and not left out in the wild. You would not like your pet parrot to wander and fly off just like that would you! So, be sure to trim the wings of your pet parrot and trim it correctly.
- Feeding your pet parrots :Like humans, pet parrots do need a balanced diet. Well, the balanced diet for your pet diet is 70-80 percent “pelleted” diet and the remaining 20-30 percent with the composition of vegetables and fruits diet. Some examples of food to be given to your pet parrots are raw onions, guacamole, chocolate or any other milk products, avocado and rhubarb.
- Cage and accessories to your pet parrots :Pet parrots need a big cage, so that they can have enough space to swing their wings, cling, and hang as much as they want to do. The best cages for your pet parrots are made of stainless steel, no paint chip off or rust. These cages are easy to clean as well.
- Safety of Your Pet Parrots :Having a pet parrot at home means you have to make your home safe for your ideal companion. Toxic fumes released by appliances are deadly for your pet parrot. The other dangerous items which can cause serious damage to your parrots are scented candles, incense, cooking smoke, cigarette smoke, carpet powders aerosol fumes , metal made of lead and zinc, electrical cords, toxic plants, hot and boiling foods and some other pets.
Always make sure that you have all the necessary information related to your pet parrot and veterinarian before you have a pet. Ask the veterinarian for a list of things you need to remember. At first, it may not be easy but you will get a hang of it later on.
