Taming a Canary
 Understanding how to tame your pet canary bird can be the start of a wonderful and life long relation ship. Taming a canary bird is not a difficult task but it requires a fair amount of consistency, a ton of patience and lots of love.
The result will be amaze as you progress to a point, where your canary is trained to leave and return to its cage on command. These beautiful and cheerful birds are readily domesticated, if the right techniques are employed. Your main challenge will be to develop an ease while communicating with your canary bird. Understanding the needs of the canary birds will help you to create a long lasting bond between you and your bird.
Your first goal while taming the canary bird should make the bird feel at ease while in the captive environment. Imagine how you would feel, if you were locked up. The birds also experience the same feelings of stress and disrupt in a captive environment. You must work hard to put your canary at ease and try not to add any type of a stressful situation. Below are some few tips that will help you in taming your canary birds.
- Verbal and non-verbal communication : Maintain a calm and soft tone of voice, while talking to your canary bird. Sounds are very essential for the survival of a canary. They are very well able to recognize the sounds with feeling of fear and security. Try to keep a consistent sound each time while approaching the canary’s cage. Avoid any type of sudden or sharp movement when you are near the bird.
- Physical Appearance : Canaries have difficulty in processing drastic changes in the physical appearance.
- Simple commands : Taming your little canary bird involves getting them to understand and follow the basic commands. When you and your bird have developed a certain level of trust, start training with simple stick training. In calm state surroundings, approach the bird and place a stick close to its belly. Gently, provide the bird to jump on the stick. Another simple command is getting the canary bird to eat out of your hands. You can do this by simply placing a treat in the palm of your hands and offering it to your bird. Patience is very important with this technique.
- Releasing the canary bird :This is one of the best ways of the taming process, releasing the canary into the house or an enclosed porch. After few weeks, your canary will begin to feel comfortable in your presence. Place a 10 perch from the inside of the cage towards outside. If all goes well, your bird will venture out onto the perch and assess the surroundings and continue on, if feels it is safe to do so.
- Returning of canary bird to the cage : This is a step were your bird will get the hang of it in time. Therefore, you need to have patience. In an any event you carry on with your bird, keep a net on hand for catching the bird in some case. A canary bird will willingly return into the cage, if it is comfortable and feels safe in the cage. When the bird is outside the cage, continue your calm behavior and quite speech around the bird.
- Teach go and come command : You will know that your canary has been tamed or close it, when your bird responds to commands like go and come. Taming should be in a level and calm voice with rewards for attempt and success. First, you need to get the attention of your canary bird by giving it a name.
Taming your canary bird can be bit challenging but the rewards are great. Even though they may be very wild in captive environment but canaries are the birds that have great personality and are quite sociable. The taming process allows your canaries to become part of the family, enjoy, and interact with you. The only things required are a lot of patience, commitment and love towards your beautiful and stunning canary birds.
