Bird Cages

Many individuals love to decorate their house interior by keeping bright colored exotic species of birds. While buying the cage for your bird you are advised to keep in mind certain aspects of bird caging. The caging requirements of birds vary from one species to another. Ranging from the material, size of the bird cage to the spacing of the bars the cages are to be purchased depending upon the breed of the birds. The following are some aspects that you should be considering while buying pet bird cages.

Purchasing Pet Bird Cages

  1. Try to purchase a bird cage that has got a good length. No matter the size of the specie of the bird all birds prefer to stay in large cages. Birds usually like to fly from one side of the cage to the other. In case of large sized birds you must also consider the height or how tall is the cage for the bird.

  2. Cages are made up of various materials. The ideal material that is to be used for building bird cages is stainless steel. The powder coated metals are also useful. Some cages are also made up of acrylic plastic cages.

  3. The spacing of the bars is also one of the important aspects that you should be keeping in mind while purchasing bird cages. The large sized birds usually live in cages that are huge in size and having wide gaped bars. There are some birds though are small in size but due to their behavioral nature of flying from one end of the cage to the other require large sized cages as well. But the bar spacing for such bird species should be with very small gaps.

  4. The cages that are made up of metal are easier to clean compared to the ones that are made up of plastic. Purchase a bird cage that has wide doors and easy sliding trays at the bottom. Make a habit of cleaning the bird cage every day as more regularly you wash the cage the easier for you to clean the cage.

Also make sure that the cage is well bolted. The latch of the door of the cage must not be convenient for your friend to open it and fly off without your knowledge.

The following are the types of bird cages that are available in various stores.

Types of Bird Cages

  1. Breeding Cages – The breeding bird cages are actually two bird cages that are attached to one another but partitioned by a thin panel. The panel is removed during the breeding season in order to facilitate the birds to mate.

  2. Dometop Cages – The dome top cages allow the birds to fly freely and to see above the cages.

  3. Parrot Perches – The parrot perches are usually for large sized birds. The perches can be made up of various materials ranging from wood, rope to even concrete.

  4. Flight Bird Cages – These cages provide birds to exercise freely. These cages have multiple feeders and perches. The bird will be able to enjoy a full flight. The cage is ideal for community bird breeds.

There are many other types of bird cages like the single bird cages, the play top bird cages and travel bird cages. The travel bird cages need not be large in size; neither it is required to be durable. The cage must be of the size that would allow the bird to fit in comfortably while you travel with it.
