Affenpinscher
When 17th century German farmers and store owners developed rat problems, they called 9on the eight pound Affenpinscher for help. Once of the most ancient toy breeds these tough dogs later moved into family homes to keep mice at bay.
Translated from German, the name means “,onkey terrier” and probably refers to the dog bushy eyebrows and dark eyes. A stiff wiry coat, cropped ears and docked taul accompany the unusual head. Several small rough-coated dogs descended from the Affenpinscher, including the Brussels Griffon and the Miniature Schnauzer. As pets, they prefer warmer climates and love human attention.
