The American Staffordshire Terrier stands out because of its powerful, dense body. although only reaching about eighteen inches in height, they ordinarily weight fifty pounds or more. They display unexpected strength for their size, and have a muscular frame and head.

A mix of Bulldog and several kinds of Terrier, these dogs once earned their keep as pit fighters, hence the nicknames Pit Dog or Pit Bull Terrier. Appearance: Powerful, stocky body with agile, muscular motion.

Coat and Color: Shiny, short, thick, tight coat. Any solid, Particolor or patched color permitted.

Head: Broad, medium-sized skull with a rounded muzzle; round, dark, wide-seyt-eyes; short, cropped or uncropped ears, set high.

Tail: Short, low and tapered.
