American Water Spaniel




The American Water Spaniel navigates through water by using its tail as a rudder. On land, this all-terrain sporting dog hunts and retrieves a variety of smll animals with ease. A likely mix of Irish and Old English Water Spaniel and Curly-Coated Retriever, the moden form evolved mainly in the American Midwest.

A tight curly coat, good sense of smell and active personality characterize the breed. Though primarily used today as sporting dogs, their willing and engaging personalities enable them to adapt to many living situations.

AMERICAN WATER SPANIEL BREED CHARACTERISTICS

Size: Male and Females 15 ro 18 inches (at the withers).

Appearance: Active, balanced body with strong, muscular motion.

Coat and Color: Wavy and curly hair of medium coarseness and length; longer haair on the throat, neck and reat, ears and tail. Solid liver, brown or dark chocolate color only.

Head: Wide skull with a square, moderate muzzle; wide-set, rounded eyes coverig a range of brown or hazel color; long, wide ears.

Tail; Tapered, feathered, medium-length and curved like a saber.
