Australian Terrier
Despite its small size, the Australian Terrier provided invaluable service to early settlers expanding into untamed lands. A blend of native terriers and the Rough-Coated Terrier from England, these dogs controlled rats and snakes, signaled the approached of strangers and provided daily companionshio.
Confident personalities and rugged builds enabled the dogs to fulfill ytheir various responsbilities. A functional coat resisted climatic challenges, as well. Easy to manage and devoted to their owwners, Australian Terriers today make excellent pets in cities, suburbs and tthe countryside.
AUSTRALIAN TERRIER BREED CHARACTERISTICS
Size: <ales and Females 10 to 11 inches (at the withers).
Appearance: Sturdy, long body with level, energetic motion. Coat and Color: Stiff, Straight 21/2 inch coat;l shorter on the ears, tail, lower rear legs anf feet; soft, short undercoat. Blue and tan (dark or silver blue with deep tan markings) or red (solid or sandy) color.
Head: Long skull with a strong muzzle; oval, small, wide-set, dark brown or black eyes, ; small, pointed erect ears, set hight.
Tail: Docked (clipped), carried high.
