1. Tank for Betta fish: This type of fish require large tank to stay in. you should provide a 5 gallon tank to single Betta fish to stay in and 10 gallon tank if you want to put other aquatic animals with them. Proper tank will prolong its life span. Make sure that the tank is filled 80%.
2. Water change: You should change the water of the tank once a week or whenever it looks cloudy in order to maintain the health of the betta fish. You can also replace half of the water of the tank instead of changing all the water. You should not remove the Betta fish from the water.
3. Food for Betta fish: You should serve floating flake food, delecta and frozen blood worms to your pet betta fish. you can also include pellets and dried brine shrimps to betta fish diet.
4. Betta fish compatibility: you should not put betta fish with other betta fish as they are prone to fight. you can put betta fish with algae eaters, guppies, American Dwarf Frog and cat fish. you should not place other plants other than the natural water plants in the tank. Chinese Evergreen is the best plant to put with betta fish as it can adapt in very low lighting and it is a hydroponic plant. it is advisable not to decorate the tank with rocks and marbles as it might hurt the betta fish.
5. Maintenance of betta fish Tank: You should clean the tank regularly, preferably every week. Avoid the use of soap while cleaning the interiors and the plants as the soap residue can harm and even kill the Betta. You can use hot water to clean the tank. the ideal temperature for the tank is 78 to 82 degrees; it should be maintained at constant temperature in order to maintain the health of betta fish.
6. Betta fish Health – You should treat your sick betta fish with proper medication such as antibiotic, antifungal or an antiparasitic. The common diseases in betta fish are ich or white spot and velvet. You should take your betta fish to vet if you find it sick.
