Bicolour Persian

When these cats first appeared at shows, they were placed in the “any other colour” class. But, eventually as they demonstrated their staying power, they were given a class of their own. The original standards mandated and exact symmetry in their patching, but today any even patching is acceptable.

A beautifully contrasting cat, the Bicolour Longhair features solid colours with white muzzle, chest, undersides, legs and feet.A white frill also is now permitted. Any recognized solid colour with white is an acceptable Bicolour Longhair variety. The eye colour should complement the solid colour.

It’s an affectionate cat, good-natured towards other cratures that treat it kindly and greatly. Not an overly energetic cat, it is nonetheless a good mouser. It’s perfectly content with life in a flat, although periods outside are appreciated.

In typical Persian fashion, the coat is thick and dense, yet silky with the lionlike frill about the neck and shoulders. The body is solid, broad, and powerful. The short, thick legs have rounded, large paws. A bushy, shoryt tail ends in a plume. The rounded, broad head features fully developed cheeks, a short nose, round and large eys, and relatively small ears that are rounded at the tip and tufted.

Potential pedigree faults include uneven colour patches, too little hair, too thin a body, a difference in tail colouration, an elongated muzzle and ears that are too close together.

Intensive brushing with a soft-bristle brush is needed daily to prevent matting of the fur.
