Bill Ensuring Quality Diet Supplements

On 11 th June, 1992, the Health Freedom Act was introduced in both the Houses of Congress. The following are the excerpts of the provisions stated in the act to ensure access to vitamins, minerals and natural supplements for all, irrespective of human beings and domesticated animals.
- The definition of the dietary supplement is provided that clearly distinguishes the type of herbs that can be consumed for natural remedies.
- The dietary supplements are not to be grouped under the drugs and additives. In fact the dietary supplements do not fall under the restrictions and regulations of the drugs and additives.
- The act gives the permission to restrict the usage of a dietary supplement on the ground of ensuring safety.
- The act permits the right of providing information, benefits and ways of suing a dietary supplement if they are proved to be scientifically true.
- The introduction of the dietary supplement in the consumer market may not require approval and claimants from the FDA.
- The dietary supplement manufacturing company has the right to move to court and appeal against the FDA warnings and decrees if passed against the usage of the product.
Till date no such appeal against the action taken by the FDA warnings has been made. The provisions made for the quality maintenance of the dietary supplements are vital for the health of the civilians and the house animals as well.
