Cat Insect Sting

Insect stings can be painful and dangerous, especially if the cat is allergic. When a cat is bitten or stung by an insect it usually cries out in pain, leaps into the air and dashes off, possibly to climb a tree or postman examination of the cat will reveal a swelling or lump. If you can see the sting, remove it with tweezers. It will be visible as a small black spot in the centre of the swelling. Cold packs of crushed ice or cold wet cloths will help relieve the pain and swelling. Calamine solution can be applied to ease itching. Treat for shock. If the swelling persists beyond a day or two, take the cat to a vet. There may be an abscess or allergic reaction.
