Cats Sulk After Being Scolded

We think a lot of our cats. So when we have to reprimand them, we feel that we have wounded thier pride, stopped them in their confident tracks and caused them to sulk. But all we have really done is intimidate the cat into feeling inferior. When we we reprimand, we stare at the cat. Its natural response is to turn away to avoid the hostility.

This makes the cat less afraid and also keeps the cat from staring back, which would be a way of provoking you more and possibly resulting in an attack. So, in a sense, your cat has surrendered.
