Cryptorchids and Monorchids
CRYPTORCHIDS
A cryptorchid is a male cat in which both testicles have failed to descend from the body into the scrotum. Crypt orchids are sterile. Usually, the undecided testicles have either atrophied (wasted away or decreased in size) or the body heat has destroyed the sperm. The condition may be hereditary or a result of disease or injury.
MONORCHIDS
Another abnormal sexual condition of male cats is monorchidism, in which only one testicle has descended into the scrotum. Monorchidism are not sterile. They can mate and produce offspring. However, the condition is regarded as a fault by cat-show standards. Some geneticists regard the condition as inherited.
