Desert box turtle have different looks and are popular as a pet. They are usually found in Trans Pecos region of Texas, New Mexico, south east Arizona, United States and Chihuahua in Mexico. The body of desert box turtle is dull brown with indistinct dark markings on it and its skin is dark with some yellow greenish markings. They have greenish markings on their head. Desert box turtle care tips:

1. Enclosure for desert box turtle: you can provide either outdoors or a large indoor enclosure to pet desert box turtle. Make sure that the enclosure you provide to your desert box turtle is large enough so that your pet can stay and roam comfortably. You can add a substrate of a mixture of play sand, peat moss and pea gravel in your turtle enclosure. It is advisable to keep the enclosure in direct sunlight and it should be properly ventilated. You can add Plants like succulents and cacti in your Desert box turtle enclosure. Make sure that you spray water under their shelter every week in order to keep the area humid. UVB lights are essential for desert box turtle so make sure that their enclosure includes these lights.
2. Food for desert box turtle: these turtle are omnivorous animal and love to have foods like earthworms, red worms, wax worms, crickets, pink mice and goldfish in their diet. You should not feed cat food to your desert box turtle as it is high in fat and protein.
3. Breeding desert box turtle: the maturity age of male desert box turtle is eight to nine years whereas the maturity age of female desert box turtle is ten years. The mating period usually starts in the spring season. Female desert box turtle will produce multiple eggs in breeding season. Proper humidity should be provided to them at the time of breeding. The hatchling eggs should be kept at the same place for 2 to 4 days so that yolk can be absorbed after breaking through the shell.
