Do Puppies Need Milk to Drink?
Bitch’s milk is significantly different from the milk of other species of animals. When a dam weans her brood, their need for milk ceases. Feeding milk, either raw or pasteurized, regardless of the fat content, will often cause diarrhea in the pup. Milk replacers are available in pet supply stores, and are used for orphaned puppes before weaning time. They need not be fed past six weeks of age. Milk products such as cottage cheese may be mixed in small quantities with puppy foods that are complete and balanced.
