Many people wonder whether or not parrots truly understand the significance of the words they use. Obviously, they sometimes do form patterns of association between words and the time of the day or certain activities. On the other hand, they will repeat things at inappropriate moments and are also guilty of inverting words and phrases without showing any awareness of having done so. It is safe to say that a parrot who says “Good morning” in the morning and “Goodnight” at night has learned to associate these sounds with a particular time of day but does not realize that they are actually greetings.Before you can teach your parrot to talk you must win his confidence by convincing him that neither you nor anything else in his new surroundings pose a threat to him. When he is calm he can concentrate on learning.
