Dog Skin Infection Treatment
Like humans dogs are often the victims of skin infections and in most cases the staph bacteria play a significant role. The dog with skin infection would be seen developing either reddened ulcerated eruptions or surfaces with dry crust. In most cases the infections occur in the regions like the chin. Dog breeds like the pugs or overweight dogs are often seen to be suffering from skin ailments that commonly occur in the skin folds like the lips, face and the vulva. The other commonly affected skin areas are the toes and the elbows of the limbs.
Effective Dog Skin Infection Treatment
• You are advised to wash the dog with antibiotic shampoos like benzoyl peroxide. After the bath dry your pet properly before applying antibiotic ointments over the infected area. You are advised to continue applying the ointment for three to four days. You may also administer oral drugs with consultation with a vet physician.
• Remove hair from the infected area so that the ointment can work effectively.
• Do not allow the dog to scratch the infected area as this would cause the spread of the infection. In that case you can either bandage the infected skin or use a type of dog collar that hinders the dog from scratching the concerned area.
In case your dog is suffering from repeated instances of skin infections, you are recommended to take your dog to a vet clinic for a complete clinical checkup. The bacterial infections especially the ones caused by the staph bacteria are usually the result of the incidence of internal diseases, like diabetes or other immune suppressing disorders. Proper treatment of the diagnosed disease would help your dog to recover from skin infection effectively.
