Flying fox fish
Flying fox fish is mostly found in Bomeo and Sumatra and belongs to the Epalzeorhynchos Kalopterus family. This fish is also known as Kuonobarbi and is a freshwater aquarium fish. The body of this fish is long with a flat abdominal area. It is a relatively calm fish; however it tends to get more aggressive as it ages. Just because of this reason they can fit well in a community aquarium. They can grow up to 14 cm and require a 60 cm long tank to stay in. The life span of this fish is 8 to 10 years in aquarium. The back of flying fox fish is love and dark brown whereas the lower part of the fish is yellowish white. They have reddish tinged irises in the eyes. The idle temperature for this fish is between 22 and 17 degrees Celsius. They like to feed on crustaceans, dried food, plant matter and insects. This fish doesn’t usually breed when kept in aquarium or tank.
1. Flying fox fish tank: It is important for you to provide 30 to 40 gallons of tank to this fish to stay. Ensure that the tank you provide to your flying fox is clean and is filled room temperature water. The tank should be cleaned frequently as untidy water can prove dangerous for flying fox fish. The heater should be placed in the aquarium at 70 – 79 ° Fahrenheit and you should try to sustain water conditions at a pH range of 6.5 to 7.5 by using a freshwater kit. You can embellish the aquarium by putting gravel in it. Make sure that the gravel that you are putting your aquarium does not have any sharp edges on it which can be dangerous for the fish. Moreover you can add decoration pieces in the aquarium which includes hiding places in it. You can add plants as well to decorate it but make sure that the plant is not poisonous.
2. Flying fox fish food: this fish mostly fly around the aquarium and need ordinary food to eat. Make sure that you provide regular and proper diet to this fish. Tropical fish flakes or pellets are the best thing to feed them with. You can also serve live, freeze-dried or frozen meaty foods such as bloodworm, beef heart or other meaty fish food to flying fox fish. This fish also like to feed on algae in the tank so you can avoid the use of algae scrubber in the tank. This fish should be feed once a day and the food you serve them should get consumed within five minutes.
Flying fox fish is a hardy breed and should be in a tank that contains plenty of rocks, roots and dense vegetation. You shouldn’t keep more than one flying fox fish together, as they like to fight each other.
