Dogs should be bathed only when necessary. If the dog is groomed frequently, bathing may be needed only a
few times a year. Dogs that require bathing before dog shows are an exception. Wash the dog’s bedding at the same time. Your dog may not appreciate your attentions, however, and you may need to prevent it from rolling in the diet to alter its scent.If it gets dirty, wash it again without delay. This will not be harmful, although excessive bathing will strip the natural oil from the coat, and make it less water-resistant. A number of breeds, such as Labrador Retrievers, can simply shake their coats dry after venturing into water, partly because of this oily protection.
