How to Administer Medicines to Dogs
Unlike your children your dog will not be able to talk to you about its pain or illness. As a concerned pet owner you have to find out whether your dog is fit or not. If you find your dog is not well, you must take it to a vet clinic just as you take your child to a normal hospital for check up. In case your dog has been diagnosed with a disease and has been prescribed with some medicines, you should be cautious enough to administer the medicines to your dog with the right amount and the right dosage. The following information may help you to administer medicines in the right way.
Administering Dog Medicines
If you have to administer pills, you may at first have to open the mouth of the dog. Place the pill on the tongue but as down as possible. Then close the mouth of your pet and gently pat the throat of your dog. Your dog has probably swallowed the pill if you find that it has started licking its nose. You may also give him some treat to ensure the pill has been completely swallowed.
To administer liquid medicines you may use syringe, droppers and such. Or you may also slightly tilt the chin of the pet to about 45 degrees and gently place the neck of the medicine bottle inside the cheek pouch, just in between the molar teeth and the cheek. Pour the liquid inside the mouth while you firmly seal the lips of your pet with your own hand. In order to apply eye drops you may open the eyelids of your dog wide for pouring. For pouring the liquid you are recommended to stand behind the dog.
