How to identify fish
One of the most difficult things while dealing with fish is to identify the fish as almost every fish looks similar. Fishes comes in all colours, shapes and sizes. There are more than 28000 types of fishes in the world. One requires proper time to understand how to identify different types of fish. According to their habits and characteristics the fishes are classified.
Types of fish:
1. Tropical fish – This type of fish requires warm, medium temperature to survive. Both salt water and fresh water fish are a part of tropical fish. These types of fish are quite by people for their aquarium. This type of fish has narrow optimum temperature ranges and hardly tolerates the unexpected changes in environment. Cat fish, Guppies, Sharks, Flying fish, Puffer fish are some of the common tropical fish.
2. Fresh water fish – fresh water fish are mostly found in fresh water bodies such as lakes, rivers with salinity less than 0.05%. This group includes 41 % of the total fishes. One should provide efficient filtration system, gravel at one pound per gallon. Make sure that the filter you provide to your fresh water fish is efficient. One can identify this type of fish by their gills as these fishes use gills to diffuse water. African butter cat fish, Betta fish, Gold fish, African cichlid and Akar betta are few examples of fresh water fish.
3. Marine fish – This type of fish is also known as saltwater fish. It includes almost 15000 species of fish. These fishes are more colourful than the fresh water fish. One should take proper care of this type of fish as they are delicate and requires regular monitoring. They are hardly kept as a pet because they require lots of attention and care. They should be provided with a big tank because they require large space to swim. This type of fishes generally require tropical climate for the survival. Blue whale, bottle nose dolphin, Cuttle fish, Goblin shark, Whales, Jellyfish, Lion fish, Star fish are few examples of marine fish.
It is important for one to understand and get familiarize with fish first before owning it. Nowadays fish are quiet admired by people as a pet. Fishes have some kind of charm in them which make people forget of their pains and sufferings. It is significant for one to identify fishes and their needs in order to make them a good a pet. One should be aware about the basic requirements of their fish before owning it.
