Jaguarundi (Herpailurus)
Another catlike animal with questionable status among the Felidaeis the jaguarundi, a strange mammal of Central and South America. It is a long-bodied animal, with short legs, long tail and rather small,round head fitted with round ears. The coat colour is brown or grey,dark on the top of the body, light underneath and liberally sprinkled with silver hairs. The jaguarundi is a tree climber and feeds on mam-mals and birds. It is a common specimen in zoos.
