Mating habits in dogs (female)

Some basic information regarding the mating habits of female dogs will be great help to novices. A female dog shows an interest in her sex life only during her heat period. This is generally between the age of six months to one year, and every six months thereafter. A few bitches come into heat only once a year. Generally the larger the breed is, the longer it takes to reach full maturity. It is only when the female is in heat that she can breed and conceive. It is always better to wait until her second or next heat period to ensure full maturity for breeding.
