Aquarium Temperature
In our climate, tropical fish tanks need permanent heating under thermostatic control. The thermostat will normally be set at around 25°C (77°F), depending on the type of fish, so in hot weather or in centrally heated homes the heater will not always been operation, having been switched off automatically. The whole system is left on all of the time, and works completely auto-magically. The equipment for controlling the heating of a tropical aquarium is very simple and economical, and extremely reliable.
Aquarium Tank
The type of tank you buy depends to some extent on the sort of fish-keeping you intend to pursue. Generally speaking, it is a false economy to buy a small tank, for a number of important reasons. Firstly, a small tank will almost inevitably be atop small tank — i.e., it is likely to be overstocked — and this is dangerous to the fish. More important, the larger the tank, the more stable it is as an environment, and the more the whole system is able to resist changes which could damage the fish. Beginners, who often start out with a small tank, are also the leas table to anticipate problems and head them off at an early stage. So always buy the largest tank you can afford and can safely accommodate. Although many fish will live in small tanks, it is best to start with one of at least 901 (20gal) capacities. This will be approximately 60cm long, 30cm in breadth, and 37.5cm in depth (24×12x15in), and will weigh about 90kg (2001b). Marine fish require even larger tanks than freshwater fish.
Home Aquarium
Before embarking on keeping tropical fish, first consider where you are going to keep them. An aquarium is a large rectangular box which takes up a lot of space — but even more space is taken up by the stand, for it is best to set the aquarium ‘0.5-1m (20-40in)from the floor, so that you can see the fish without bending down. Even a moderate-sized aquarium is very heavy — probably 400kg (nearly 8cwt) or more — and so cannot be put on top of any ordinary piece of furniture.
Fish Adaptation
Fish Breeding Tips and Information
For fish to breed successfully in the aquarium, they must be healthy and feel that all conditions are right. Generally, it is difficult to breed fish caught in the wild, as they are much more demanding in their requirements, but usually even the most awkward types can be bred by expert aquarists. After the first few generations have been bred, further breeding is progressively less difficult, as the ‘easy breeders’ become selected out from the population. Thus fish which, when first imported, commanded very high prices become quite cheap once the principles of breeding have been mastered. For example, the Neon and the Cardinal were originally very expensive and bred only — and with great difficulty — by the specialist, but now both are standard aquarium fishes, available everywhere at moderate prices, and easily bred.
Meaning of Fish
Fish come in all shapes and sizes. The Whale shark is the largest, up to 20m (66ft) in length, while others are less than 1 cm (1/2in) long, but all fish are constructed to roughly the same general plan, with the same types of structure and organs. This applies even to very oddly shaped fish; although their bodies are distorted and adapted for some specific function, they nevertheless have althea basic organs common to other fish.
Dog for Elderly
Getting a dog for an elderly person have many benefits. Provided that the elderly person is relativelt able bodied, there is no reason why she should not have a dog. A dog provides great companionship and reassurance for someone living alone who spends much of his or her time at home. Burglars are usually far less likely to target a home where there is a dog, which should make your mother feel safer, especially at night. Try to persuade him to choose a dog that he can control easily. A large powerful dog might pull her over. An elderly person’s lifestyle and physical capability are better suited to an adult dog than to a puppy. The grown pet is usually house trained, and needs less training, and less exercise than a young dog. If the yard is not fences, you might need a dog walker to help.
Choosing the Right Dog
Choosing the right dog that meet your family needs is very important. Breed rescue organizations are part of the breed club and specialize in the placement of purebred dogs. Dog rescue volunteers work together with dog shelters to evaluate, train, and rehome dogs of their breed. These dogs are residents of the dog rescue organization for many reasons. The history of a particular dog is often available from the organization. In order to make a smart decision on choosing a right dog, you should talk with the volunteers at the dog shelters and don’t adopt a dog that have a major behavior problem.
