The Red-Eyed Tree Frog

As the name suggests, the red-eyed tree frog is native to the Neotropical rainforests of Central America. This frog is vibrant in appearance with bright red eyes and vivid green body with yellow and blue stripes. They have orange toes. The average size ranges from 2 to 3 inches. The young ones are brown in color and turn greener as they grow up. The skin on their belly is thinner than the skin on their neck and back. Since these frogs are arboreal in nature, they spend most of their time in trees and are very good jumpers. Red-eyed frogs are not poisonous and resorts to camouflage to protect themselves. They are usually active during night and remain motionless at day time. Since they quickly resort to camouflage it becomes difficult to capture them.

The Golden Toad

The most spectacularly colored toads on earth, the Golden Toad is found exclusively in the country of Costa Rica. Because of its limited availability, it is also referred to as Monte Verde toad. Way back in 1966, they were first described by the herpetologist, Jay Savage. Since 1989 not a single Golden Toad was spotted anywhere else in the world apart from Costa Rica. A decline in the population of the amphibians suddenly led to the extinction of this particular species of frog.

Chubby Frog

The Asian Bull Frog is commonly known as the chubby frog. Belonging to the narrow-mouthed frog family, they have rounded bodies. The skin color ranges from brown to mahogany with cream stomachs. They have distinctive stripes on their bodies which are usually copper brown to salmon pink in color. The throats in males are darker in color than that of the females. Body length varies from 7-8 centimeters with females having a slightly larger body than the males.
