Parrot Performance

From here on you can accomplish as much as you are willing to work for in training your parrot. You can teach the bird to lie on his back in your hand or to ride your shoulder as you walk around the house. Parrots can be trained to push the carts or to throw small objects and to catch them as you throw them back. Some parrots like to walk on the floor while others are fearful of doing so. If you have floor-walker, there are many interesting activities that he can be taught.
There are a few basic principles of training that will serve you well as you knew, to teach your parrot more tricks or stunts.

Avoid adding to his tasks by demanding that the parrot learn activities which seem frightening or threatening. Parrots do not like change and take time to adjust to any thing new in their environment.A simple prop which appears harmless to you may frighten the bird to the extent that he will not be able to concentrate on learning the trick you are attempting to teach him. In such cases, it would be better cogive up t he prop and perhaps the trick rather than wasting your time and upsetting your parrot.

It is wise to begin training by selecting an action which is part of the bird’s normal behavior, and then modifying it into an amusing activity. For example. parrots use their beaks almost as it third claw. If your bird is holding your hand with two claws and his beak, slip his claws off your hand and he can hang by his beak for quite a long time. You can swing him front side to side or in a circle without his letting go of your finger or becoming upset. Many parrots are particularly responsive to music. This natural response to rhythmic sounds can enable you to teach the bird to give the appearance that he is dancing to a catchy little tune.

The best teachers reinforce learning activities with praise and rewards. In the case of your parrot, your exclamations of delight and your laughter at his antics are the best reinforcement. Many birds will even laugh along with you, and I have one parrot who laughs at histricks even before l do.

Remember that the first step is hand-training and, it is the foundation for all hand-training. In addition patience is the keynote to success in mining. When you see a parrot doing something appealing, like hiding under his owner’s sweater, or lying on his backin a totally defenseless position, remember that these feats were not accomplished overnight. Time, common sense and perseverance were all required.
