Pet Crocodile Information

The crocodile is perhaps more feared than the alligator; it is a large, amphibious thick-skinned and long tailed reptile, and although some are tameable, many are never to be trusted.

Crocodiles grow rapidly and are entirely unsuitable for captivity in a domestic environment. They need an air and water temperature of 27 ° C(80-90 °F), plenty of direct sunlight and must be kept alone. They fight with their fellows. Because crocodiles grow so rapidly they have a strong requirement for calcium as part of their diet. When they are in the wild they will seize a whole fish. If they happen to find some animal on the river bank they will take the whole animal as well and are able to digest the skeleton. However, in captivity one tends to feed crocodiles meat which is calcium and Vitamin A deficient. This problem along with that of accommodation makes the crocodile a most unsuitable pet.
