Dog Records

Although breed clubs that sponsor competitions should keep careful records, mistakes may occur due to the very large numbers of shows and dogs involved. As a precaution, you should maintain careful records of your dog’s successes. Some clubs will penalize you incorrectly and strip a dog of all accomplishments and registration status. To prevent mistakes, rely on your own knowledge and record keeping.

Most owners keep a bound book that holds all of the relevant information. Include the name, sex, breed, birth date and markings of the dog for identification. Note the date, location and sponsoring club of eve, competition you enter. Include the name of the judge, number of dogs competing in your breed and how well your dog fared. Copies of titles, certificates or ribbons should also be included, with the originals stored in a safe place.
