Requirements of aquatic turtles
It is essential for owner to fulfill all the basic requirements of his pet aquatic turtle to make it survive for long. Aquatic turtle requires things like tank, filter, heater, basking platform and supplements to feel comfortable. Requirements of aquatic turtles:
1. Enclosure for aquatic turtle: Enclosure is one of the essential requirements of aquatic pet turtles. The size of aquatic turtle enclosure depends on the size of the aquatic turtle and the number of turtles being kept. You can keep the aquatic tortoise in glass enclosure, acrylic enclosure, wood enclosure, plastic enclosure or garden pond. The enclosure of pet aquatic turtle can be inside or outside of your home. You should maintain the water quality of your pet aquatic turtle enclosure. The ideal temperature of aquatic turtle enclosure is24 to 29° C. if you provide outdoor enclosure to your turtle then make sure it is not kept under direct sunlight as it can cause algae in the tank. Enclosure of aquatic turtle should be designed in such a way so that aquatic turtle can feel comfortable and secure.
2. Food for aquatic turtle: You should provide healthy and balanced diet to your pet aquatic turtle. You can include foods like kale, romaine lettuce and collard greens in yo0ur aquatic turtle’s diet. Food such as crickets, mealworms, wax worms, super worms, roaches, fish, shrimp, and night crawlers can also be served to aquatic turtles. It is advisable to consult pet store owner or vet regarding what to feed and how often to feed your aquatic turtle. You can also supplement your aquatic turtle’s diet with vitamin and calcium.
3. Filter for aquatic turtle: Filter is one the necessary thing for aquatic turtles because they are very messy. You should provide efficient filtration system to your pet aquatic turtles. The water quality is necessary to be maintained in aquatic turtle enclosure as unhygienic water can be the cause of your pet turtle’s death. You should use water conditioner in your turtle enclosure once in every month in order to maintain the quality of the water. You should make a partial water change once in every 30 days.
4. Light and heat: You should provide light and heater to your aquatic pet turtle. Lights such as UVA and UVB will help your aquatic turtle in absorbing vitamin D. try to avoid the direct sunlight in your aquatic turtle enclosure as it can cause algae in it.
