Should I Scold the Puppy When It has an Accident Indoors?

There is no point in scolding your puppy unless you catch it in the act. The pup will not understand what it had done wrong and your scolding may confuse the training process. Rubbing the puppy’s nose in the puddle is equally ineffective and is likely to upset your pet. A lase of house training could have happened because you were less alert to the puppy’s needs than usual. Clean up well, and try to avoid a recurrence. If you need to go out and can’t take your puppy with you, don’t withold drinking water in the hope that this will prevent your pup from urinating during your absence; such a practice could seriously affect the young puppy’s kidneys. Instead, confine the pup to an area that is easy to clean, and protect the floor with a thick layer of newspaper on top of a plastic bag. Try not to leave your puppy for long periods, however, because it is likely to become distressed.
