Slider turtles are very popular as pet because of their ease to handle and dazzling looks. However they require same amount of care as all the other turtles need. The ideal temperature for this turtle is 75 to 82° C and basking temperature is 85° C. Make sure that the enclosure you provide to your pet is large enough because these turtle require proper space to swim and rest. 1. Enclosure for slider turtle: this turtle require large space to stay in. it should be designed in such a way so that they can swim, hide and bask in. make sure that the enclosure of this turtle is four times longer than your turtle upper shell length. It is important to provide efficient heater to these turtle. Avoid keeping heat rocks or heating pads in its enclosure because it can harm your turtle. If you keeping slider turtle outside then make sure that it is safe from predators. it is essential to provide platform in the enclosure so that they can climb out of the water to bask or dry off. The ideal temperature for basking area should be kept at 85° C and for water it should be between 75 and° C.
2. Food for slider turtle: These turtles love to have feeder fish (except gold fish), warthworms, tubifex worms, slugs and shrimps will shells. You can include trout or catfish chow, turtle brittle and insects in your pet slider turtle diet. At times you can serve dark leafy vegetables or carrot to them.
