Except for house training, no dog should be taught obedience until it is six months old. Prior to that age it should be taken out as often as possible, especially after meals, to allow it to wander on grass. At eight years of age a dog has reached the end of his working life; after that, he needs an arm-chair. For that reason it is best to obtain a dog at about twelve months old to get the full value out of his training.
