What Age Do I Start Dog Training

Except for house training, no dog should be taught obedience until it is six months old. Prior to that age it should be taken out as often as possible, especially after meals, to allow it to wander on grass. The herbs in the grass induce the dog to perform its natural functions, and when he is turning round several times he is following his ancestral habit of making a convenient spot for himself, by pushing the long grass down.
At eight years of age a dog has reached the end of his working life; after that, he needs an arm-chair. For that reason it is best to obtain a dog at about twelve months old to get the full value out of his training.
As a final observation, never boast about your dog’s activities. Let him make his own reputation, and remember that with the best-trained dog in the world it is the handler, or the man behind the gun, that counts. The dog will do only as much as the handler wants him to.
