1. Proteins:
Proteins, one of the most important components of a dog’s diet, are needed as a source of amino acids. There are over 20 amino acids, all of which are needed by animals.
2. Carbohydrates:
Carbohydrates in the diet provide energy and fiber for proper intestinal function.
3. Fats:
Fats are required in the diet of dogs for the absorption of vitamins A, D, K and E for palatability of food, and as a source of essential unsaturated fatty acids.
4. Vitamins:
Vitamins are very essential in minute amounts in the diet for proper body metabolism, growth, health and life.
5. Minerals:
Minerals are quite important for a variety of body functions, even though they constitute only a small fraction of the body i.e. less than 0.7 percent.
6. Water:
The importance of water can never be minimized. The living cells of the body cannot exist without water and need a continuous supply without a break.
