Dog Cesarean Section
Whether or not to perform a cesarean section is a value judgment on the part of one best equipped to make such a judgment and that is usually a veterinarian. With problem deliveries some veterinarians prefer to extract a puppy from the birth canal with instruments hoping the others will then be delivered normally. Others prefer to operate immediately so the female will not overtire herself straining. After a cesarean operation the mother arid her puppies go home immediately if there are no complications.
Dog cesarean section of is an important aspect of veterinary science. It has been examined a large number of dogs suffer from delivery problems due to either behavioral or physical problems. Many puppies die in fact before completing six months of their age due to neonatal diseases. The pregnant dogs may be made to operate because of various reasons like labor pain for a prolonged period of time, hypoxia, dystocia and such. The following are the general reasons behind conducting dog cesarean.
Reasons for Dog Cesarean Section
- Vet goes for a cesarean section if they suspect that puppies may not be delivered at the right time. The dog may find difficulty in delivering a pup if the puppy is or improper size, narrow pelvic bones or the presence of the puppies in a risky position.
- Abnormal uterine inertia can also be the cause of the dog cesarean section. Not all labor pains lead to a natural safe birth of pups. Vets go for a cesarean delivery if they find black, red or green discharge indicating the detachment of the placenta and fetal discharge.
- The dog cesarean section should not be done before the over due of the date of delivery. The operation should only be conducted when the labor pain starts or when the temperature drops below 99 degree F. The doctors should also be very careful of the timing of the cesar for the survival of the pups.
The Cesarean sections are quite rewarding for bitches that have problems with delivery. The effects of the operation are quite mild with respect to the ill effects of other forms of operations. What ever the dame is given to eat or consume it directly affects the pups inside her womb through the placenta. The drugs that are administered to the pregnant dame during dog cesarean section are not harsh and provide comfort to the mother without harming the little pups.
The medicines like ket-val or ketamine valium if administered may turn out to be quite harsh for the pus. It might take around 20 minutes to recover from the effects of the medicines. Now days, vets generally use Propofol as an anesthetic during the C-section. The anesthesia should be given for few minutes and then masking the medicine down with the aid of ice-o-florine. This process if anesthesia results the pups to be crying just like in case of a natural birth. Isoflurane is also an effective anesthetic medication though being expensive. The medication is to be stopped the moment the doggy gets up for the betterment of the health.
