Dog Testicles

The testicles are frequently damaged by accidents and fights. The sheath may be torn away and require extensive suturing. There are many incidents where the scrotum was frozen to a rock: the dog may sit on a very cold surface until numbness sets in, and when he stands up the outside layers of the skin can literally be torn off. The sheath often thickens from injuries and infections, but it is fairly easily treated with medication.

On the other hand, a problem such as retained testicles appears to be a true genetic defect. But this is a difficult defect to eliminate from as train since it skips generations and may require genetic material from both parents to produce it. If a litter is produced with even one such puppy, don't repeat the orating.

The lack of the presence of the testicles or the sperm producing organs in dogs leads to impotency of dogs. The condition of the absence of the testicles in the dogs is mainly due to two reasons, Monorchidism and Cryptorchidism. The Monorchidism is the condition when only one testis develops while the cryptorchidism is the condition when the in spite of the presence of the two testicles one of them is either very small in size with respect to the other or fails to descend down from the abdominal cavity to the scrotum. The following are some information of dog testicles.

Dog Testicles Information

  • The impotency of your male dog as already mentioned can occur due to two main reasons. The impotency can be treated successfully in case the nature of sterility or the condition of the testis of the dog can be determined through effective diagnosis. To find out the condition that has lead to the occurrence of the testis vet physicians take the help of the ultrasound and blood samples for testing the level of the testosterone hormone.
  • The condition of monorchidism is a genetic defect. Though the condition enables the dog to be sexually fertile but such dogs should not be encouraged to produce pups as that would actually cause the transmission of testical order from one generation to another.
  • The occurrence of cryptorchidism may often lead to the development of cancer. As a result of which you are recommended to get the testicles of your dog removed surgically.
  • Orchitis is another form of a problem that may develop in the testis. This disease is characterized by swelling as the micro organisms enter inside the testis through any injury. The injuries mainly occur out of the intrusion of barb wires, scratching of nails and such.
  • The Orchitis may also occur as a side effect of the incidence of diseases like influenza, distemper, mumps and such.
  • Hydrocele is another disorder that develops due to the accumulation of serous fluid inside the scrotum.
Testicular Torsion takes place quite suddenly and the dog experience sudden pain. Under such circumstances the dog refuses to move even. Take your dog to a to a vet surgeon in case you suspect your dog to be suffering from problems related to testes.
