The disease called pyometra is an infectious disease that occurs in the uterus of the female dogs. The disease is characterized by a pus filled uterus. Though the disease have been detected several years back but the reason behind the development of the uterus disorder is yet to be determined. Doctors believe that the hormones like the progesterone and the estrogen and their receptors are involved for the development of the disease.
The development of infection is due to the presence of bacteria. A female dog when it gradually becomes sexually matured through several hormonal changes the uterus of the bitch gradually becomes ready for the fertilization of the embryo and then the growth of the baby. - The disease is most likely to develop when the uterus of the dog is rich in the hormone called progesterone.
