Anemone fish, Clown Fish
They are one of the colorful, tough, lively, small, calm, and economical marine fishes. Anemone fish come in different colors such as yellow, red or black; but the orange anemone fish are the most popular. Wild Anemone fish face many threats; one such threat is not having a place to live. They require coral reefs for their survival. Coral reefs play a very significant role in the lives of various animals and plants. They are the habitats to million of plants and animals. There are 28 types of Anemone fish. Amongst them, Maroon female Clown fish Premnas biaculeatus being the largest of all with the length of 6.5 inch and Amphiprion thiellei being the smallest of 3.5 inch. The natural diet of Anemone fishes primarily consists of zooplankton. These fishes are easy to sustain in the aquarium. They can have a large variety of food. Mostly anemone fish are fed on tiny drifting animals like copepods, algae and plankton. The suitable water temperature for this type of fish is 77 - 82°F or 25 - 27ºC, except noted differently. Make sure that your aquarium contains plenty of rocks for anemone fish to play and hide in. As they love being out from the tank to feel secure, so one must think before purchasing this type of fish. You must think before adding the tank mates to this type of fish as all fishes can’t be good for all the different types of anemone fish. All fishes have different behavior so it can be hazardous to put other fishes with an anemone fish. The Mother anemone sticks her eggs to the rocks in the pond or aquarium. It’s the duty of male anemone to keep the eggs clean. He makes sure that the water on eggs is fresh and clean. He fans and paddles his fins to push clean water above the eggs. He even prevents the eggs from other fishes as well by chasing them. After one week, one tiny fish hatches out of each egg. The tiny fish look quite different from an Anemone fish. The size of tiny anemone fish is about the size of a child’s fingernail clipping. Tiny anemone fishes hardly swim with their parents. Generally, after three weeks a baby anemone fish starts drifting. Finally, when the baby anemones come out, it becomes the same color as its parent fish. One of the interesting facts about this fish is that it starts its life as a male. As they grow the males morph into the female species. Several anemone fishes never depart from their anemones care.
