Aquarium Fish Disease

Aquarium Fish DiseaseFishes are very receptive in nature and easily get affected by a number of ailments. Mostly, the causes of Aquarium fish diseases are the change in a diet. Since there are lots of aquarium fish diseases, and it’s not possible to mention all of them here. Therefore, some common afflictions are mentioned below with their respective treatment.

Types of Aquarium fish disease:

  1. Mouth fungus in fishes: The symptom of this disease is a white cottony patch around the mouth. It is known as Mouth fungus because it looks likes a fungus attack on the mouth. It is originated from the bacterium Chondrococcus columnaris. In starting, it leads to grey or white lines around the lips which later, turns into short tuffs similar to fungus developing from the mouth. The toxins produced and the inability to eat can be deadly if not treated at a time.
    Penicillin at 10,000 units per liter can help in curing it. Take a second dosage in two days or use chloromycetin, 10 to 20 mg per liter, by a second dosage in two days.

  2. Tuberculosis in fishes: The common symptoms of this disease are - emaciation, hollow belly, possibly sores, laziness and skin ulcer. It is originated from the bacterium mycobacterium piscium. It may cause yellowish and darker nodules in the eye or body of the fish. The main reason of this disease is unhygienic aquarium water.
    It doesn’t have any absolute treatment. However, there are some pills that can be used for aquarium fish to cure it is kanamycin and Vitamin B-6 for 30 days. If the disease of the aquarium fish doesn’t get cured then you should destroy that infected fish.

  3. Dropsy in fishes: The common symptoms of this disease are Bloating of the body and protruding scales. It is originated from a bacterial infection of the kidney which causes fluid accumulation or renal failure in aquarium fishes. The reason of this disease in aquarium fishes is an unkempt aquarium condition.
    It can be treated by an efficient antibiotic i.e. chloromycetin or tetracycline. Generally, it comes in 250mg capsules. You should add 1% antibiotic with flake to get disease cured.

  4. Scale protrusion in fishes: The common symptom of this disease is protruding through scales without a body bloat. It is caused because of the attack of several bacteria. It can be prevented by changing the water of aquarium regularly.
    It can be treated by an efficient antibiotic i.e. chloromycetin or tetracycline. It usually comes in 250mg capsules. You must add 1% antibiotic with flake to get this disease treated.

  5. Tail rot and fin rot in fishes: The common symptoms of this disease are disintegrating fins that may be reduced to stumps, exposed fin rays, blood on edges of fins, reddened areas at a base of fins, skin ulcers with gray or red margins and cloudy eyes. The main reason of this aquarium fish disease is a poor conditions and overstock aquarium tank.
    It can be treated by an antibiotic i.e. chloromycetin or tetracycline. Generally, it comes in 250mg capsules. People should add 1% antibiotic with flake to get the disease treated.

The reason of mostly aquarium fish disease is an unkempt aquarium tank condition. So people should take regular steps in order to prevent fish diseases.
