Betta Fish Activities

Betta fish is one of the most popular small fresh water fish. It is also best know as a Fighting fish or a Siamese fish. Betta fish is kept in the house as it indulge in some interesting activities.

Activities of Beta fish:

  1. Betta Jumps a lot: Betta fish likes to jump a lot! So, water level must be kept below 6cm at the top of tank. A proper lid should be used at the top in order to keep the beta fish safe when it flips .Choose a tank large enough for the fighting fish to swim comfortably all over the tank. Don’t use air tight lids. Lid should have some air holes. Beta fish don’t take air from water but they take it from air.
  2. Behave worst on sign of other betta fish: Avoid keeping mirror or shiny surface near the tank. At the slightest sign of other betta it gets excited. This happens even if sees its own image. This action will be fun watching but it will stress the fish resulting in reducing the life span of fish.
  3. Betta fish remains active and alert: Betta fish remains active all the time. Betta fish are very aggressive in nature especially during a fighting situation. Betta fish fight with each other till one of them is dead or leaves the place.
  4. Beta become drowsy: If the temperature of the tank is very low, beta becomes very drowsy. When betta fish becomes drowsy it can be a sign of illness or stress.
  5. Bubble nest: The male beta fish makes bubbles at the top of the tank. When this bubbles are made it means that he is healthy, happy and ready for spawning process. Male beta fish makes a bubble nest for its mate before spawning.
  6. Betta fish requires hiding space: Betta requires plenty of hiding space in the tank. Generally they like to hide at the bottom of tank. Lying down at the bottom may also be sign of an old age.

Betta fish are the active fishes that come in various colors. Most of the fishes are seen in colors like black, purple, red, and dark blue. Female and male Betta fishes have different form of colors. Males are brilliantly colored attractive fishes. Female fishes come in neutral colors like brown or grey. Females are thinner than males. The overall body structure of females is different from males. Female fish have smaller fins while male fish have bigger and smoother fins. The pet buyers will ask for male Betta fish due to their looks and activeness. The brighter the color of the fish the more active it is. So, while you are buying fish check for its brightness. Betta fish is one of the active fishes. If you do not find the fish swimming then there is something which is wrong in the fish’s health.

It is necessary to change the water frequently from the fish tank. These fishes secrete ammonia all the time. If you do not change the water frequently then it could prove fatal for the fish. The water you are changing should be of the same temperature as the old one. Do not pour the fresh water until you check that it is neither too hot nor too cold. Observe the Betta fish activities to ensure its safety and proper growth.

We have seen the activities of the betta fish. Beta fish are some of the most beautiful fish. They are highly aggressive in nature. Since betta fish requires less care they are popular in home aquarium.
