Cloudy Water in Fish Tank
Aquarium owner usually face the problem of cloudy water in their tank. Cloudy water in the fish tank can be caused due to numerous reasons. Cloudy water is mostly caused by debris from new substrate, bacterial bloom, chemical imbalance and floating algae. Tips to prevent cloudy water in the fish tank:
- Bacterial bloom in fish tank: If your tank water turns cloudy a week or month later of an aquarium set up then it must be because of bacterial bloom.
- Clean tank gravels: Make sure that the gravel that one use in their tank should be cleaned with water properly. One should clean the gravel until the water runs clear. Unhygienic gravels can turn the water of the tank cloudy.
- Use RO water in fish tank: Cloudy water in aquarium can also be caused by high level of elements present in the fish tank. The Elements like - phosphate, silicates, or any other metal. One can treat it by conditioner or by using RO (Reserve Osmosis) water in their fish tank.
Decaying plants and uneaten food can also be the reason of cloudy water. Therefore, one should change the water of their fish tank regularly. If you really want to prevent the water of your tank being turning cloudy then make sure that the tank is cleaned frequently. One can also perform partial water change to prevent cloudy water in his fish tank.
If you are not able to clean your fish tank water properly then you can add flocculent in your tank. Flocculent helps to clumps the debris particles together so that filter can remove it.
At times, water gets cloudy due to algae growth as well. So one should make their tank get free from algae.
Tips to prevent algae:
- Algae eating fish: One can keep algae eating fish in their tank so that fish can consume all the algae from the tank. This will help ion to prevent cloudy water in your fish tank.
- Avoid excess lighting in your tank: Excess lighting can also lead to algae growth. Make sure that your aquarium should not be kept under the direct sunlight and the artificial light of the aquarium should not be excessively used.
- Avoid nutrients: Algae can also be caused due to the excess use of nutrients such as – phosphate and nitrate. So try to reduce the use of nutrients as much as you can.
