Emperor Angel Fish
The scientific name of Emperor Angel fish is Pomacanthus Imperator and is a species of marine angelfish. It is also known as Imperator angelfish, Imperial angel and Emperor Angel. It is mostly found with coral reefs in the wild, in shallow to one hundred feet depths. The Emperor Angel fish is very much admired by people because of its striking looks. It has many blue and yellow stripes on its body and wears a black mask around the eyes. The tail of this fish can be of any color either orange or yellow. The dorsal fin is notched with a pale edge. The nose is pale blue.
Emperor angel fish are the reef associated species. The juveniles like to stay in the hidden ledges or prefer staying inside the holes of the reefs or in the semi-protected areas of the reef flats. As these creatures grow, they start moving to the holes which are situated on the fronts of the reefs and in the surge channels. The larger specimens are found in areas which are surrounded by the algae and on the seaward reefs.
The largest emperor angel fish measured was 40.0 centimeter. The juvenile fish has a bluish black body which has concentric white circles on it. The adult fish is decorated with closely placed horizontal yellow stripes on the sides of their body. These fishes are blue in color and are attractive at first glance.
It is mostly found in the indo- pacific region and can be found near the red sea. The maximum length of this type of fish can reach up to 16 inches in length. Therefore, you should provide a big aquarium for this fish. Fish tank for Emperor Angel fish must be spacious enough so that the minimum requirement of water can be deposited. 150 gallons should be the minimum and a 200 gallon or larger tank is suggested as they require ample space for swimming.
The suitable water temperature for an emperor angel fish is 72-78°F and one should keep the specific gravity at 1.022-1.025 and the pH-value between 8.2 and 8.4.The Emperor Angelfish is considered quite difficult to keep and is not recommended for beginners. One should place them in older and secure aquariums with ideal water conditions. You should put ample of live rock for grazing when keeping this type of fish in an aquarium.
Large emperor angelfish have the potential to become gigantic intimidates in a marine aquarium. This fish can turnout aggressive towards other large angelfish and antagonistic towards other species of fishes. Therefore, it is advised that one should keep one emperor angelfish in each aquarium, so that other fishes can survive peacefully.
Mostly, Emperor Angelfish feed on sponges and other encrusting organisms. They are also fond of tunicates, other animals, algae, and vascular plants. Owner should take off this omnivore diet for this type of fish, but make sure that you don’t only provide sponges and tunicate because these fishes usually take up meaty foods such as shrimps in their diet. One must provide high-quality food to its emperor angelfish. Improper diet can diminish the colors of adult emperor angel fish and young fish can fail to accomplish the proper color.
Male Emperor Fish mostly sticks at a specific place where they live and mate. Reproduction will take place only if they are going to mate each other. During the mating process male emperor will release his gametes then chase the female emperor. During the process of mating, both male and female emperor fish will change color.
For the reproduction process, both male and female angelfish will rush to the surface. It is because they mate in an area where the fertilized eggs will be taken away on the currents to drift into the open ocean. Once the eggs hatch, the larvae remain in the open ocean near the surface. Then the larvae build normal characteristics like other fish.
