Fish Pills

There are several things that can spoil the health of fishes. People who purchase fishes should be reliable and responsible as it requires proper attention and care. People can follow several precautions to reduce the possibility of any disease.

Precautions that can help in maintaining the health of your fishes are mentioned below:
  1. Compatible fish: People should purchase good quality fish or compatible fish.
  2. New fish: Keep the new fish in an isolated tank before putting them in aquarium.
  3. Don’t overstock: Don’t add all the fishes at one time. Fish tank cannot support a full tank of fish. Don’t overstock your tank with fishes. Overstock fish can cause excess waste and an unhealthy environment for the fish.
  4. Observation: If you found some change in any fish then put that fish in some other container for few days. It will help to avoid the disease from spreading to other fishes.
  5. Metals: Keep metals away from the reach of aquarium water as it may prove hazardous for fishes.
  6. Clean Water: Regularly clean the water from the aquarium. And don’t put the isolated tank water in an aquarium, as it might be infected.
  7. Clean filter: It is important to clear carbon from the filter as carbon coating won’t be allowing water to get filter properly.
Some fish diseases require pills to get it cured. Some common diseases and the pills that are required by the fishes are mentioned below:
  1. Mouth fungus: It is a kind of disease which look likes a fungus attack of the mouth. It is caused from the bacterium Chondrococcus columnaris. At first grey or white line appears around the lips and later on it forms short tuffs, similar to the fungus developing from the mouth. It can be deadly unless it gets treated at an early stage.
    1. Pills: Penicillin at 10,000 units per liter can work. Indulgence with a second dosage in two days. Or use chloromycetin, 10 to 20 mg per liter, with a second dosage in two days.
  2. Tuberculosis: It is caused from the bacterium mycobacterium piscium. It makes fishes lazy, hollow bellied, show skin ulcers and frayed fins, have fin and scale loss and loss of hunger. It may lead to yellowish and darker nodules on the eye or body of the fish. It mostly happens because of the polluted water.
    1. Pills: It is difficult to get diagnosed and there isn’t any particular medicine to treat this disease in fish. However there are some pills that can be used to cure it i.e. Kanamycin and Vitamin B-6. If the fish doesn’t get treated then you should destroy that fish.
  3. Dropsy: It is caused from a bacterial infection of the kidney. It causes fluid accumulation or renal failure and makes the fish to bloat up

  4. Scale protrusion: The main cause of this disease is unhygienic condition of aquarium.

  5. Tail rot and fin rot: It is mostly caused by the poor condition of the tank. It can be originated from tuberculosis.
