The best way to eradicate hardness from the aquarium water is to pass it through a suitable softener. One can lower the carbonate hardness in water by boiling it and one can also pass it through a filter. To harden water, add sodium bicarbonate or magnesium sulphate in small quantities, so that modifications occur very steadily. At time hasty changes can prove hazardous for your fish. If one wants to calculate the hardness of water of aquarium then calculate the quantity of mineral that are melted in it. One can measure the hardness of water in aquarium by two scales i.e. DH and KH. DH is used to calculate the calcium oxide minerals present in the water of aquarium whereas KH scale is used to calculate the amount of carbonate and bicarbonate salts present in the water of aquarium. |
