Green Puffer FishThe common names of this fish are Green Puffer and Ceylon Puffer. It is a member of the Tetraodontidae family. It is mostly found in Asia, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Borneo. These fish have very thick set and shaped like a blunt club. It has protruding eyes with very large forehead. Their skin has some leathery texture and body is covered with small spines. Green Puffer Fish is quite admired by people because of their unique and majestic looks. They are available in very attractive colors. The back of this fish has green cooler with black spots and a white belly. Like chameleon, it keeps on changing its color.

One must scrutinize green puffer fish properly before purchasing it. Avoid purchasing green puffer that just sits on the bottom of the tank as that is a sign of an unhealthy fish. Make sure that your green puffer fish moves around the fish tank actively. Active fish have more longevity than the inactive ones. The sexes of green puffers are difficult to distinguish.

Requirements of green puffer fish:

Green puffers are omnivores and can be fed commercial pellets and fish flakes. Best diet for this fish is frozen foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimps and krill. Occasionally they can eat fins and scales of other fishes. Try to feed them twice a day. Try to avoid overfeeding as it can cause death. The ideal water temperature for this fish should be between 23° C - 27° C.

Green puffer fish is quite friendly with other green puffers; they are mostly hostile towards other fishes. Sometimes they get aggressive towards other green puffer also. It usually happens because of insufficient care or if they are stressed out. Hence; one must think before purchasing it or if you own green puffer then make sure that you provide enough love and care to a green puffer fish.

These fishes are quite aggressive therefore, it is recommended either to keep them alone in the tank or you can accompany them with tough fish. If you are adding new fish to the tank then make sure that the fish you are putting should be less hostile as they can fight with each other. One should put calm fishes with green puffers as they are more likely to kill other fishes. Green puffers stress out easily therefore, one should provide clean and healthy environment for the green puffer fish. Make sure that you maintain the pH level and temperature of the tank, so that the tank should not turn toxic. Green puffer fish requires healthy environment to survive. Therefore, one should change the water of the aquarium frequently. Make sure that your aquarium contains efficient filters in order to maintain water quality.

Put plenty of toys, plants, marvels, stones, pebbles in your tank as green puffer love to play and hide inside the tank. It is essential for the owner to meet their entire requirement if you want your green puffers to survive for long.

Green puffer fish are not good fishes for beginners. They need more of space for their growth. These fishes also need more love, attention, and care as compared to other fishes. Green puffer fishes need more food on a frequent basis. They are always hungry and require frequent meals i.e. for every one or two hours. They look beautiful and are known as playful specimens. Green puffer fish have unique style of swimming which attracts people and make them stare at them for hours. If you take care of them properly, they can live a longer and healthy life. Their diet consists of ghost shrimp, bloodworms, and pond snails.
