Hardy Fish

Hardy fish is a name given to a fish that is easy to sustain in an aquarium. Therefore, these fish are the best choice for a novice. Although there are several types of fishes that are easier to keep in a new aquarium, but one must consider hardy species as they have a better chance of surviving in a fish tank. Hardy breeds are more likely to survive the first few uncertain months as the water stabilizes. Although there are several types of hardy fish and but it is difficult to mention the name of all here. Therefore, some common hard fish names are mentioned below that one can keep in their new tank.

Common hardy fishes:

1. Hawkfishes: They make a good choice for beginners as they are very hardy. They have a better chance of surviving in a new fish tank. Moreover they exhibit vibrant colors which make them look more beautiful and elegant. These fish have large head with thick bodies. The average length of this fish is 7 cm and maximum it reaches up to 15 cm. the sexes of this fish are difficult to be distinguished.
2. Comet fish: It also makes a good choice for beginners as they have resistance to diseases. Moreover, they heal injuries rapidly. This fish might try to hide somewhere because they are quite shy when introduced to the fish tank. After a short period of time they get used to that environment. It comes in different colors but the common colors of this fish are – yellow, orange, red and white. This fish ahs a long, singly and deeply forked tail fin. They require dim lighting for their survival.
3. Neon tetras: This is quite a hard fish and adapts well to a wide range of water conditions. The lifespan of this fish is 10 years and generally 5 years in aquarium. This fish has light blue color over silver a silver white belly. It comes in bright colors that make it look beautiful and it is the main reason of its popularity. It is important to change its water frequently and make sure that there is good flow of water through the tank.
4. Guppy fish: It is one of the popular fish of an aquarium because it adjusts easily in every aquarium. Moreover, it looks beautiful in the tank because of its bright colors. The sexes of this fish are easy to be distinguished. Females are grey in body color; males have splashes, spots, or stripes that can be yellow, orange, blue, red, black, or even purple.
5. Damselfish: These are colorful and hardy. These fishes live in aquarium during its initial existence as well. Moreover, they also provide biological stabilizer to the aquarium. The average length of this fish is 8 cm. Their diet includes algae, plankton, crustaceans. Mostly they accept all type of food and are disease resistant. Remember, every fish requires clean water and proper care to survive.

Hardy fish, as the name states are the fish which can be maintained easily as compared to other fish species. These fishes are not the delicate ones to keep in your home aquarium. Hardy fish can easily adapt to the various range of water parameters. They are known as the good starter fishes for keeping in an aquarium. Hardy fishes are ideal for cycling the aquarium which means reducing nitrites and ammonia from the aquarium water to zero percent. These fishes do not need more of maintenance and attention as compared to other fishes. They feed on tubifex, brine shrimp, daphnia, feeder fish, and Infusoria.
