Dragon Fish Care
Dragon fish are the ferocious species which have their habitat in deep waters. They are also known by the names Dragon Gobies, Peruvian Gobies, Violet Gobies and Eel Gobies. Gobioides broussonnetii is the scientific name of a dragon fish. Its body size is just 60cms. But they have really large set of teeth as compared to its body size. You can have them as fascinating pets but just like other species of fish, they need care. If you know how to take dragon fish care, you can handle this fish easily and keep it healthy as well. Diet of Dragon fish :
Dragon fish is basically a carnivorous fish. Provide it with a diet rich in protein. In its natural habitat, this fish feeds on insects, insect larvae, primarily aquatic invertebrates and even old carcasses. If you want to keep your pet healthy and happy in environment of an aquarium, you should try and make a replica of its natural habitat in your aquarium. For this you have to provide vast variety of frozen, freeze dried and processed foods. Take care that your fish is consuming all the food you have offered within two minutes. Left-over should be cleaned at the earliest otherwise it will lead to poor water quality. Do not feed your carnivorous pet more than once a day. If you do this, you are over-feeding them, they will excrete more waste. Make sure that you are doing 10% to 15 % of water change and other required filter maintenances every week in order to avoid any ailment catch your fish.
Natural Habitat for Dragon fish :
If you provide dragon fish with ample rocks and plants, they will feel at home and improve their health and increase their appetite for sure. This fish needs warm and clean water and prefers brackish water so; you may need a water heater and a thermometer to keep a check on water temperature. Each Dragon fish asks for 25 gallons of water. Provide at least a four-foot space to it. It does not have a good eye-sight and thus, it is easily bullied by other aggressive fish. To save your sensitive fish you need to keep them separately from its bullies.
Compatibility of Dragon fish :
Dragon fish is comfortable with fish having similar temperament. Brackish water fish are easiest to be kept with dragon fish. When kept with a variety of fish, sometimes small fish become its prey. It does not get along with fish of aggressive nature as mentioned above.
This highly territorial, solitary fish is a beautiful creature among those water creatures that have fins and gills. The owner of dragon fish must know how to care for a dragon fish.
